Jeremiah: The Background
© By: Brian Ernest Wakeman

In the darkest decade
Two boys were born.

King Manasseh had made
Policies Judah learned to mourn:
Involving human sacrifice, idolatry
Black arts and necromancy.
His deliberate reversal and apostasy
Left the people damaged spiritually.

Josiah was born, and while a youth
Sought the Lord and reforming truth.
The Book of The Law was found,
The Covenant rediscovered.
Josiah based his reign on this ground.
The political/social life recovered.
They changed laws but not the heart.
This was to be   the second boy's part.

Jeremiah was born in 648
The outspoken prophet to the nation state.
He received threats and rejection
Wrestled with God, feeling dejection.
He proclaimed the message, and persisted,
But the   rebellious people resisted.
Judgement came through Nebuchadnezzar,
Defeat and Exile, another sermon's chapter.

I came home from Church and read more about Jeremiah, capturing ideas in a poetic form.
I hope you find it informative.
